1 DROP 1000 YEARS Homeostasis maintains vital balance by preserving the organism's suitable temperature, symbolizing perpetuity. In 2022, Jaehoon Bang invites Martin Messier to explore this concept through a performance. The Global Conveyor Belt, an immense oceanic current known as the thermohaline loop, stirs the waters of the five oceans, regulating the global climate. Within less than a thousand years, a drop of water traverses the globe, carrying nutrients, warmth, and life, influencing ecosystems. For over 200 years, this current has slowed, threatened by human activity. Any malfunction could precipitate a climate collapse, as water is vital. Messier sheds light on this homeostatic subtlety and the fragility of balance, questioning. Elusive Matter With Elusive Matter, a minimalist light and sound performance, Martin Messier transforms simple wisps of smoke into a veritable projection screen. In a room submerged in darkness, armed with a projector as his sole source of light, Messier draws a myriad of ghostly spaces, architectural shapes and dreamlike images from the intangible haze, juxtaposing light and sound in order to conjure atmospheres both ethereal and soothing.
