It has been said that DEATH, SEX AND ETERNITY preoccupied iconic Québec composer Claude Vivier, murdered in 1983 at the age of 34 years. This is an interdisciplinary program that includes two works performed live with haunting video by Indigenous artist Michael Greyeyes: the virtuoso piano solo “Shiraz”; and the mesmerizing “Cinq chansons pour percussion”. It also features his lyrical song “Hymnen an die Nacht”, and the whimsical but poignant “Love Songs” for 7 singers, a drama running the gamut from nursery rhymes and folkloric traditions, to deep questions of our place in the universe.
