RE: ORIENT
Constantinople & Jeong Sang Hui, Lee Sang Hwa, Oh Byung Og
With «re:Orient», we bring together at a crossroad the deeply rooted traditions of Pansori and Persian music and we reimagine new directions and musical landscapes where, each of us, while keeping its identity and roots, converge toward the others. This creation proposes a new sound and vision from the meeting of these two «Orient» with their millenarian musical heritages and sophisticated cultures. The inspirations and sounds from nature are an integral part of our vocabulary and the diversity of musical instruments, (Daegum, setar, kanun, double bass and percussions) bring to this work a very large and rich palette of sounds and expressions.

IN THE FOOTSTEPS OF RUMI

Djalaleddine Rumi (1207-1273) left us an immutable treasure that reflects a refined and luminous understanding of the world. Plunging into his universe and meandering through his texts opens the door to deeper thinking and universal spirituality. Together, Ghalia Benali and Kiya Tabassian chose a selection of poems, both in Persian and in Arabic. Surrounded by an ensemble of exceptional musicians, here is a concert of music both profound and spontaneous, that follows in the footsteps of Rumi.
BREATHINGS
Constantinople & musicians from indigenous communities
Breathings is a celebration of our intimate relationship with nature, a concert that places the breath at the center of the musical act. Heir to a living indigenous tradition that finds its source in the sounds of nature, Darlene Gijuminag performs Mi’kmaq vocalizations and prayers. One of the foremost representatives of Tuvan throat singing (khöömei), Mongun-ool Ondar uses his singular vocal technique to evoke the souls of the steppes and nomadic peoples. Their voices is joined by the Persian melismatic stylings and songs of Kiya Tabassian, completing this meeting between three bearers of ancestral traditions, inviting the audience to take part in their dialogue about past, present and future.
